Sustainable Ski Wear Through Performance, Innovation, and Circular Design

Crystal Cicle

Crystal Cicle focuses on the development of innovative sustainable ski wear, exploring the intersection of performance, style, and environmental responsibility.Through extensive research and experimentation, Tereza explores advanced recycling methods, including mechanical and chemical recycling, to approach apparel design responsibly.

The project aims to create ski apparel that meets the rigorous demands of outdoor enthusiasts while contributing to a circular economy through design for disassembly and resource conservation.Crystal Cicle reflects Tereza’s commitment to redefining outdoor fashion and inspiring more sustainable practices within the industry.

Research & Material Analysis

The development process began with an in-depth analysis of existing ski apparel, focusing on material composition, layered construction, seam technologies, and insulation systems. By deconstructing an existing ski jacket, the project examined how outer shells, linings, waddings, and trims are traditionally assembled and where opportunities for improved sustainability and circularity exist.

Design for Disassembly

A key focus of Crystal Cicle is design for disassembly. The garment construction allows insulation to be attached to the lining rather than the taped outer shell, enabling easier repair and replacement of filling. This approach extends the lifespan of the outer shell while supporting future material separation and recycling.

Construction & Prototyping

Through iterative pattern development and toiling, the project tested seam alignment, fit adjustments, and lamination techniques. Quilted wadding was used to maintain insulation structure while limiting attachment points, ensuring both functionality and repairability. Advanced construction methods, including taped seams and alternative bonding techniques, were explored to reduce material waste and improve performance.

CIRCULAR DESIGN

Materials were selected with closed loop production in mind, prioritising polyester based textiles and membrane systems that allow compatibility within single fibre recycling streams. By structuring components for separation into recyclable categories such as polyester, lyocell, and metal elements, TB apparel supports durability, disassembly, and end of life recovery. Crystal Cicle presents a system led approach to performance apparel where material sourcing, construction, and recyclability are considered as one.
